Collaboration with Steven Curtis Chapman

The musical collaboration between Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman and actor/singer Boise Holmes centered around a reimagining of Chapman’s song, “Living Color”.

The Origin

The track originally appeared on Chapman’s album Still, written as a reflection on his deep childhood friendship with his 7th-grade best friend, Carlton Bell, a young Black boy from whom he eventually drifted after moving away. After the two artists met and connected while Holmes was in Nashville touring with the Broadway production of Wicked, they began discussing the song’s themes over meals.

The Creative Piece

Deeply moved by the story of friendship, racial division, and longing for unity, Holmes wrote a profound spoken-word response to pair with Chapman’s acoustic melodies. His performance adds a powerful Layer of poetry focused on seeing each other as brothers and sisters beyond societal barriers.

Live Performance

The duo debuted their impactful collaboration live on the historic Grand Ole Opry stage, receiving a passionate standing ovation from the audience. They have since reunited for other live performances, such as a special appearance at the Arlington Music Hall in Arlington, Texas, where they closed by leading the crowd in the hymn “Oh How He Loves You and Me”.
